How to Choose the Appropriate Soaking Method
Choosing the appropriate soaking method depends on the following conditions:
If the temperature and water temperature are low and there are no water temperature regulation facilities, we can choose to extend the water cut-off time for soaking. By generating heat through the respiration of wheat grains, the temperature of the wheat layer can be increased, allowing the wheat grains to germinate at the suitable temperature. Alternatively, the spraying method can be selected, but the spraying time should be shortened accordingly.
If the temperature and water temperature are high and there are no water temperature regulation facilities, the operation method of soaking four and four or soaking three and six can slow down the accumulation of CO2 and heat caused by vigorous respiration of wheat grains and shorten the soaking time. The spray method can also be chosen, as it is effective and water-saving.
When there are water temperature regulation facilities, the soaking method can be selected. However, it is important to note that when the temperature is low, the soaking method with a longer soaking time should be used, whereas when the temperature is high, the soaking method with a shorter soaking time should be selected.
Under the conditions of thin grain skin, large grain size, loose endosperm section, and high germination ability of barley, it is preferable to choose a soaking method with a long water cut-off time, such as the spraying method.
Under the conditions of thick barley grain, more glass plasmids, and slow water absorption, the soaking method with a longer soaking time can achieve the required degree of soaking and ensure normal dissolution.
